APPENDIX · HOW THE AUDIT IS COMPUTED

The
Methodology.

Every facility is scored using the same public, transparent rubric. We publish it here so families, advocates, and the facilities themselves can audit our audit.

SECTION 1 / DATA SOURCES

Where the numbers come from.

01 / PRIMARY

CDSS Facility Search

California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division — the official register of every licensed RCFE in the state. Updated nightly in production. We pull license numbers, capacities, addresses, and the full inspection & complaint file for each facility.

ccld.dss.ca.gov · PUBLIC RECORD

02 / VERIFICATION

CANHR

California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform — a nonprofit that tracks resident-rights complaints independently of the state. We cross-check our reading of severity against their classifications, especially on substantiated complaint outcomes.

canhr.org · NONPROFIT

03 / PRICING

Facility-published ranges

We collect price ranges from each facility’s own pricing page and from publicly posted Medi-Cal Assisted Living Waiver capitation data. We never quote a facility a price — we quote them their price. Ranges shown are monthly all-inclusive.

FACILITY DISCLOSURE · DEMO

04 / NOT USED

We do not use lead-share data.

We do not buy data from referral aggregators, we do not embed their tracking pixels, and we do not exchange data with any commercial senior-living lead-broker. Our entire data pipeline is public records plus facility disclosure.

SECTION 2 / HOW THE SCORE IS CALCULATED

A rubric you can re-run yourself.

FORMULACare Audit Score

score = 100
  − 25 × type_a_count_24mo
  −  8 × type_b_count_24mo
  − 10 × substantiated_complaint_count_24mo
  −  4 × open_complaint_count
  +  5 if no_citations_24mo
  +  5 additional if no_citations_36mo

score = max(10, min(100, score))

Every facility’s score is recalculated nightly. If a citation comes off the rolling 24-month window, the score adjusts — we don’t punish facilities for old issues forever. If a new one lands, the score adjusts the next morning.

BAND / CLEAN

90–100 — Verified Clean

No Type A or B citations in 24 months. Eligible for the public “Verified Clean” badge.

BAND / STRONG

80–89 — Strong

Minor Type B history, no Type A. Common for well-run mid-size facilities.

BAND / WATCH

60–79 — Watch

Multiple Type B or substantiated complaints. Tour and ask hard questions.

BAND / ALERT

Under 60 — Caution / Severe

Type A citation, repeat substantiated complaints, or active enforcement. We display the score in red and recommend you read the citation file carefully.

SECTION 3 / WHAT WE DO NOT DO

The promises — in writing.

PROMISE 01

No lead-share. Ever.

We will never sell, exchange, or pass your contact information to a facility, a broker, a placement agent, or any third party. This is not negotiable. It is the entire reason this site exists.

PROMISE 02

No paid rankings.

A facility cannot pay to rank higher. They cannot pay to suppress a citation. They cannot pay to remove a complaint. Our rankings are computed from public data alone.

PROMISE 03

One opt-in badge, audited.

Facilities with zero Type A citations in 24 months may pay a flat fee to display the “Verified Clean” badge. The badge is only available to facilities that already qualify on score. We re-verify annually. If they slip, the badge comes off.

PROMISE 04

Sources, every time.

Every citation we show links to the underlying CDSS record. If we’re wrong, you can see what we read — and tell us.

SECTION 4 / CORRECTIONS

If we got it wrong, tell us.

Same-week correction policy. We log every correction publicly. We do not silently edit.
CONTACTFor facilities & families

If a citation listed here has been overturned, dismissed, or amended — or if our scoring transcribed a license number incorrectly — write to corrections@alumniyat.com with the facility name, license number, and the CDSS document reference. We respond within five business days and post the change to our public correction log.

If you’re a family member who wants to add lived-experience context to a facility page, that’s a separate review system on the roadmap; for now please write to hello@alumniyat.com.

We work for readers, not for facilities.
Always.
